Placement Opportunity at Diamond Thoughts

Diamond Thoughts specialises in designing and making jewellery in silver, platinum and white gold.

Diamond Thoughts is looking for an enthusiastic, determined and reliable individual who is a creative, forward thinker to undertake a placement.  Students will gain hands on experience throughout the creative process, from generating and developing design ideas to sketching and wax model making.

Students will need to have a clear understanding of the jewellery design process; they will also have a broad knowledge of properties, qualities materials and finishes.

Daily duties will involve

  • Sketching
  • Model making
  • Design research
  • Assisting in the workshop
  • Soldering  and melting
  • Working with precious metals
  • Using saw blades  and other workshop equipment
  • Cutting and clearing cast blades
  • Basic polishing and buffing techniques
  • Working with precious metals

Intern at London Jewellery School

London Jewellery School are looking for a keen and reliable intern to work 1 day per week starting in December 2010 for a six month period.

About the School:

London Jewellery School is a world-class jewellery training centre based in London’s Hatton Garden. We teach classes on how to make jewellery throughout the year to 100s of adults and children. We also host jewellery parties and other jewellery related events. We are looking for a reliable and keen intern to help with the day-to-day running of the school and our activities.

Role and Responsibilities:

Putting together class notes
Helping to prepare the workshop for each class
Administering class certificates
Supporting tutors in class preparations and tidying up after classes
Emails, phone calls and general admin
Promotion on behalf of the school
Distributing promotional material around the local area
Help with updating the website
Proof reading letters, adverts and print
General mucking in with cleaning up after classes, and helping with the general running of the school when required.

We are looking for someone who is:

Punctual and reliable
Able to communicate well over the phone, through emails and in person
Interested in the work of London Jewellery School
Computer Literate
Has good organisational skills

This is a voluntary role but we are asking you to commit for a minimum of 6 months and we can cover up to £10 per day for lunch and travel expenses for your volunteering. You will also have access to training opportunities in return for your time and the successful candidate will also be awarded £1000 training budget to attend our jewellery making courses.
