A closer look at October’s jewellery making prize

This month’s jewellery making competition prize is a bumper bundle worth over £100 from Beads Direct.

There is so much in it we thought it was worth a closer look:

Even we don’t know what’s in the big bead hamper because Beads Direct want to retain some mystery. But when is opening a surprise package of beads a bad thing?

Kumihimo Braiding kit

Kumihimo is a Japanese technique that creates colourful braids that you could wear by themselves or use to hang a pendant – perhaps made using some of your mystery beads. The kit has everything you need to learn the technique and create an 18in braid. A chance to add another skill to your repertoire.

 Mini tool kit

Have you every thought about taking a jewellery project on a trip and wondered how you are going to pack everything. This little tool kit could be the answer – flat nose, snipe nose and round nose pliers plus cutters in a case you could slip in a handbag (although possibly not for hand luggage if you are flying).

Fimo clay kit

Polymer clay is a fun material as anyone who’s been on one of our polymer clay workshops can testify. It’s possible to be engrossed for hours creating canes and colour combinations to produce beads and surfaces for pendants, bracelets etc. If you already use clay, more supplies are always welcomes and if not, here’s a chance to try it out.

Bangles from London Jewellery School classes

Plus there are pens, shrink plastic and even a mug to keep you supplied with tea as you create.

To win this great bundle of creative supplies, send us a picture of your Halloween inspired jewellery.

Entering couldn’t be simpler. Explain why or how your piece invokes the spookiest time of the year – it could be colours, shapes or inspirations – and send a picture of it to press@londonjewelleryschool.co.uk. We’ll publish the picture in our facebook page gallery along with links to any website or social media info you give us.
